The Grammy Awards took place as scheduled, and it was a showing of epic proportions as the heavyweights of music came together to prove that nothing can hinder the power of rhythmic symbiosis.
Let’s talk performances. Taylor Swift opened the show and closed it with her win for Album of the Year in recognition of her massively successful LP – 1989. Swift is the “All American Girl” who has a squad of “Taylor Girls” at her side, so no matter how we feel about it – she rules!
She did what she does best but we are certain that Rihanna would’ve done it better but unfortunately the singer turned designer extraordinaire was out of commission due to a nagging bronchial infection. Life just doesn’t play fair sometimes!
But at least we had the immaculate Lady Gaga to make up for anything and everything that we could possibly bitch about. Her tribute to the late David Bowie was exactly what we hoped for and way more. There was nothing else to do but stand up, bow down and then scream with recognition and pride. It was just too much to bear.

The Weeknd came through as expected and without a doubt – this is a vocalist that will stand the test of time.
The Lionel Ritchie tribute didn’t catch any vibrations until Tyrese Gibson hit the stage and by then the man himself was visibly restless until he took to the stage and schooled the lightweights on how it’s really done.
Speaking of getting an education – there was no better way to be introduced to the magic of Kendrick Lamar than by being doused with the primal magnificence of the MVP of the Grammy’s.

The California-based rapper transformed the ceremony into a fiery depiction of regulated chaos, as the stage was ablaze with soldiers and testimonies of war. War against the raging machine and a system that helped earn the heralded artist a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, and Song of the Year but not Album of the Year which his LP, To Pimp a Butterfly definitely deserved.
If there was anything to take from Kendrick Lamar’s blessings – it’s that art can’t be defined or admonished. God Bless Black America!
Adele was poised to wow the audience but her vocals didn’t hold up for a variety of reasons that really didn’t take away from the fact that it was Adele – and her worst day is still considered more than bearable.
Hamilton took home the Best Musical Theater Album which was no surprise, Meghan Trainor won Best New Artist which may have been a shock and Stevie Wonder’s tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire was adequate enough except it kind of wasn’t.
Also there was no salute to the late Natalie Cole except for a montage paying homage to the ones who’ve left us which ended with her gorgeous 1992 rendition of her father’s swooning ballad – Unforgettable. Sources confirm that Cole’s sisters are understandably disappointed with the treatment their sister received
But the Grammy’s at like most award shows thrives off the now and lets the tester years remain where there are unless your legacy has enough room for negotiation.
Thank God Beyonce is a big part of what we are concerned with presently – and her sleek appearance which was meant to be her solidly quiet “f*** you” to those who have been cruel to her latest Formation – did the trick – as she proudly validated why she is Queen Bey and then dutifully presented the biggest award of the night.
Pit Bull stormed the stage to signal that the festivities were over for viewers but just beginning for the thankful audience – and for most of us – we wonder what always keeps us coming back for more?
It’s the vibes.
