Industry sources confirm that Idris Elba is hoping to partner with Matthew McConaughey in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
Elba who just garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation was originally slated to star with Tom Cruise in Universal’s remake of The Mummy – but apparently decided to trade that in for the opportunity work with McConaughey.
Both actors are still in the negotiation phase but it is safe to bet that this project will come to fruition especially when you figure in a script by established scribe Akiva Goldsman aided by Jeff Pinkner – plus the visionary wits of director Nikolaj Arcel.
A rewrite of the script is currently underway with Arcel diligently toiling away with Danish filmaker Ander Thomas Jensen who penned Election Night.
If all goes according to plan, fans can expect to see Elba portray the sharply wound up Roland Deschain who has a very specific way with guns. McConaughey will play the villainous Man in Black.
This is definitely one to keep an on as the casting list expands and production commences.
