Beyonce lived up to all the hype and expectations during her highly charged performance during the Superbowl half-time show. From the moment her shimmering template lit up the stage, it was SHOWTIME.
And what followed was delectable confetti coated with nostalgia energetically ripped from Mrs. Carter’s personalized playbook.
She dominated the stage, effortlessly dramatizing the reason why she is often referred to as Queen Bey, and as such in was only fitting that her ladies-in-waiting would join her for old times sake. After weeks churning through the rumor mill, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams showed up just in time and resurrected Destiny’s Child, reminding us of the awesomeness the three women shared back in the day.
It goes without saying that Beyonce did her thing and did it very well but most importantly she looked flawlessly manicured from head to toe, and the person responsible for the self-proclaimed diva’s gorgeously conceived attire is designer Rubin Singer.
Singer has remained relatively under the radar until now, but his resume is laced with the promise of BIG THINGS to come. He worked as an associate designer at Oscar de la Renta, was head designer for licensed goods at Bill Blass and head designer at Kai Milla, under the tutelage of Stevie Wonder’s wife Kai and after that gig he decided to venture out on his own. Establishing his own label allowed him the level of exposure that forced industry insiders to take note. He immediately garnered attention from reputable pubs like WWD and Elle and his exquisitely produced formal pieces were eagerly swiped by respectable retailer, among them Neiman Marcus.
And now he is known as the man who made Beyonce look like a Divalicious Warrior Princess on one of the biggest nights of her life. Apparently the Crazy in Love songbird has been a fan of Singer since 2010, and a slew of other celebs have followed suit including sister Solange, Alicia Keys and Heidi Klum.
This seems to be the year of discovery and if anyone deserves to be unearthed and dutifully utilized, its Rubin Singer. Bravo!
