Beauty used to be in the eye of the beholder, but lately it seems that the “experts” have decided to take it upon themselves to declare what we should internalize as the undisputed version of femininity at its best.
Beyonce, who recently gave birth to her first child Blue Ivy, doesn’t have to worry about motherhood hampering her sex appeal, she was named the “The World’s Most Beautiful Woman” by People Magazine. She is definitely stunning, but most beautiful?
Across the pond, 18-year-old Florence Colgate is enjoying the privilege of youthful vigor and a title any girl would love to boast about. She has been labeled ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Face”. According to the data pulled together by Carmen Lefevre, a PhD Student at the prestigious University of St. Andrews, Colgate is blessed with all the elements that result in the perfectly proportioned face. Large eyes, high cheekbones, fair skin and full lips, are all the ingredients needed in order to be a certified “classic beauty”
But is this really the message we should be sending to young impressionable girls who are desperate to find role models and end up being heartbroken when they realize that they have nothing in common with them?
The notion that certain facial features are globally identifiable and acceptable as the standard of beauty is potentially damaging and misleading.
But kudos to the beauties that made the list! Hopefully twenty years from now, the requirements will be a little less stringent.
