The American Music Awards were announced today, and British singing sensation Adele came out on top with 4 noms.
Adele, 23, who unfortunately had to cancel the rest of her U.S. tour due to a vocal chord injury, was nominated in key categories, including favorite rock/pop female, adult contemporary artist and fittingly, artist of the year. Her album 21 dominated the charts even before its official release so it’s no surprise that she is being recognized in such a big way.
Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift all followed suit with 3 nominations each.
Adele, (21), Lady Gaga, (Born This Way), and Rihanna (Loud), are also in the running for the favorite pop album award.
Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West will battle it out in the rap/hip hop category since they predictably garnered nominations for favorite artist. The Kanye West/Jay Z collaboration proved fruitful enough to get them a favorite album shoutout. And Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday” and “The Carter” by Lil Wayne join them.
Not to be left in the dust, former Destiny’s Child darlings, Beyonce and Kelly Rowland will face Chris Brown in the soul and R&B categories.
