Grace Coddington, has cemented an enviably vibrant career as a fashion visionary as well as the running buddy of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, but as they say nothing lasts forever. It has been confirmed that Coddington will be stepping down from her position as creative director at the famed publication.
The striking red head who began her career as a model which led to a long-standing and fruitful relationship with American Vogue – became creative director in 1988. But, despite the surprising reveal, she is adamant that her reason for scaling back is actually a good one.
“I really love Vogue, it’s been in my life always, they discovered me as model at 19”. “I’m not running away from Vogue, because it has opened so many doors. But it will be nice to collaborate, and nice to go out and give talks to people. It’s just another approach”.
According to
Business of Fashion, Coddington “will assume the role of creative director at large and take on additional projects outside of the magazine”.
Sounds like the 74-year-old British fashion staple has no plans to slow down – and is instead hoping carve out time for ventures outside of the artfully crafted pages she’s been carefully curating for over 25 years.
She reiterates this with a personal promise, “I’m certainly not going into retirement. I don’t want to sit around”.
