Well, that didn’t take very long. The immaculate wizard behind a slew of gems including Moulin Rouge! Romeo + Juliet, and The Great Gatsby is back in familiar territory with a musical that based on the delightfully evocative trailer – will have us moving to the beats of an era that set the pace for cultural and spiritual awakening in a way that still resounds today.
The Get Down is another delicious entrée that’s been added to Netflix’s already bloated menu. The 70’s inspired period piece is set in the trouble zone of the South Bronx and follows the chaotic exploits of a bunch of restless teens who get caught up in the headiness and rapidly evolving environment they inhabit.
And of course we are courted with the intensity of social clashes, racial strife, and most importantly the conception of disco.
The featured cast doesn’t boast any familiar faces, which is a good thing – mainly because it provides the level of intensity and validity that only helps to propel this highly anticipated show further into the stratosphere of coolness.
At this point, all we know is that we can expect to Boogie Woogie sometime in 2016.
Hopefully sooner rather than later.
