The numbers are in! And despite the uproar centered on Quentin Tarantino’s latest offering Django Unchained. It appears that the excessive use of the N-word isn’t an issue with moviegoers, particularly African-Americans, who evidently have eagerly embraced the multi-faced flick with little or no reservations.
The film which stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardio DiCaprio and Kerry Washington vividly captures the abhorrent climate of the pre-Civil War era. Foxx embodies the character of a slave in the South who after being set free by a bounty hunter (Waltz), decides to hunt down the merciless owner of a plantation played by Leonard DiCaprio.
Reservoir Dogs and Inglorious Bastards are both brilliantly executed films, famous for their unique blend of sadistic elements and heroic interplay all drenched in gory overload.
Django Unchained continues this tradition and not even the rantings of self-imposed black cinema critic Spike Lee can hamper the efforts of Tarantino’s effort to depict a story anchored by the historical significance of slavery, complete with betrayal and bloodshed.
This time, the sometimes self-indulgent director went all the way, and you will too of you can hold on long enough!
