Ryan Coogler is now in the enviable position of being one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood.
His steady ascent to the top began with the critically acclaimed hit – Fruitvale Station. The film, which was released in the summer of 2013, also starred rising star and Creed lead actor, Michael B. Jordan, was based on a true story about a black man named Oscar Grant, who hailed from the Bay Area and was shot and killed by a BART police officer despite posing no threat and being handcuffed.
The film performed remarkably well at the box office due to its controversial subject matter that delved heavily into the hot topic of police brutality against people of color.
And now with the runaway success of Creed, which enjoyed a massive opening at the box office during its opening weekend, solidifying the prospect of a sequel and resurrecting the appeal of the Rocky franchise – it’s clear that the 29-year-old director is poised for a very long and rewarding career.
Thankfully he doesn’t have to wait long for his next ambitious project as it has been confirmed that Coogler is in negotiations to direct Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.
Up and coming actor Chadwick Boseman has already been cast as the superhero named T’Challa who oversees the kingdom of Wakanda – fictional province in Africa.
The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and was introduced to fans of the Fantastic Four comic books. The Black Panther also teamed up with The Avengers and remained with the crew long enough to gain some level of notoriety.
You can expect to see Boseman as the Panther for the first time when he makes his debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Black Panther is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 3 2017.
