Missy Elliott is definitely ending the year with a bang. After way too much time out of the spotlight, Elliott, who frequently collaborated with Timbaland and the late singer Aaliyah back in the good ole days when innovators ruled the fold, is back to show the present company how its really done.
Here latest single with Pharrell Willliams – WTF (Where They From) dropped recently and reminded us why those of us who’ve adored the ground breaking rapper can’t ever get enough. It also introduced Elliott to a whole new audience of eager-minded fans.
After amassing years of success in a genre that is typically dominated by men – it look like all that hard work is going to paid off in full thanks to the recent announcement that Elliott will be receiving the inaugural Innovator award at the Billboard’s Women in Music 2015. ceremony that is scheduled to air on Lifetime Dec. 18.
Elliott has enjoyed the privilege of a record breaking career that includes six top five albums that shattered the charts in the Top R&B/Hip-Hop category which happens to be an honor that no other female rap artist has been able to replicate. She has also produced three No.1 albums – 1997’s Supa Dupa Fly which was also her debut album, Da Real World and Miss E…So Addictive.
Her dopeness also translates into impressive numbers based on the results from Nielsen Music that proves that Elliott has sold at least 7.6 million copies in the US alone.
The talented Miss E. currently graces the cover of Billboard magazine and in response to the announcement – Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media Entertainment Group that oversees both The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard expressed why Elliott’s selection was a no brainer,It’s such a thrill to make this announcement while Missy is on our current Billboard cover after a decade-long hiatus. Along with Elliott, Lady Gaga will also be feted as she is due to receive The Woman of the Year award. The ceremony will take place on Dec. 11 in New York City.
