Uzo Aduba has been cast opposite Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael in The Maids – a dauntingly exquisite play by Jean Genet that centers around two maids who compulsively come up with creatively disturbing ways to rid themselves of the woman who oversees their welfare.
The highly intense psychodrama will be helmed by Jamie Lloyd and will have its run at London’s West End with previews set for Feb. 20, 2016 at the Trafalgar Studios. The play will make its official debut on Feb. 29.
Aduba became a household name thanks her to starring turn in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black which garnered her two Emmys and a roster of offers including the upcoming NBC offering – The Wiz Live!
The Nigerian-American actress is no stranger to the stage after memorably tackling Broadway in both Coram Boy and Godspell.
Carmichael is best known for her role as Lady Edith on the hit series Downton Abbey but she is also a veteran stage actress who made her West End debut back in 2012 when she was part of the ensemble cast of Uncle Vanya.
Actress Zawe Ashton will play alongside Aduba as a fellow maid and co-conspirator.
