British director Danny Boyle, best known for his 2008 sleeper hit and Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire recently confirmed to Deadline that his next project will force him to go back in time.
Boyle is quite sure that that the sequel for his 1996 cult classic Trainspotting will be happening sooner rather later. He also divulged that the main cast members – including star, Ewan McGregor, are eager to come back and reprise their roles. Considering the immense success of its predecessor, it’s not hard to believe that almost twenty years later, there is still enough incentive to inspire a second installment.
Trainspotting brilliantly captured the unfiltered rawness of the drug-infested streets of Glasgow in the 80’s, as demonstrated by the young restless addicts whose often time ghastly activities created non-stop chaos and mayhem.
Boyle will be paired once again with his long-time collaborator, John Hodge, who penned the script for the first film. He also expressed his delight with the script for Trainspotting 2 as well as his desire to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. The only catch would be getting everyone’s schedule to line up. He points out that due to the fact that two actors in the main cast are currently working on U.S. based TV shows, it could be challenging figuring out a start date for production.
But one thing’s for sure – Trainspotting 2 will be coming to a theater near you in the foreseeable future.
