The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Scandal star Kerry Washington will star as Anita Hill in a TV movie that will air on HBO. Washington will also serve as executive producer.
Confirmation, currently in development, with a script being penned by Oscar-nominee Susannah Grant who delivered Erin Brockovich, will focus on the turbulent period that captivated the nation in 1991 as Clarence Thomas came under fire during the Supreme Court nomination hearings due to the damning testimony of Anita Hill who accused Thomas of sexual misconduct.
Washington’s casting will undoubtedly help propel the success of a project that is already seeped in all the elements that will guarantee its viability. Riding on the relentless popularity of ABC’s Scandal, Washington’s attachment will pull in the level of interest that will help garner HBO a certified hit.
Nigerian-American Director Rick Famuyiwa, best known for his 1999 film The Wood, has expressed interest in directing but nothing has been finalized yet.
