Star Jones is evidently using her real life mishaps to her benefit and VH1 is helping her reap the rewards of her hard labor and short-lived misfortune.
The lawyer and TV personality’s departure from ABC’s The View back in 2006 caused quite a stir when Jones decided to announce she was leaving the daytime talk show two days early in order to give the impression that she was walking away from the high-profile gig on her own terms.
In actuality, Jones had been informed by the show’s creator Barbara Walters and then producer Bob Geddie that she would not be asked to return after her contract expired that summer. Her surprise announcement put a dent in her personal relationship with Walters who explained to viewers the following day – that she was “blindsided” and that effective immediately Jones would no longer appear on the show.
The parting of ways was obviously seeped in bitterness and betrayal – and Jones immediately made the PR rounds to explain her side of the story. Larry King Live was one of her early stops, where Jones explicitly described the humiliation of being fired by ABC, and refuted claims that she was one of the reasons why the ratings were dropping.
There was also the hot button topic regarding her wedding to now ex-hubby Al Reynolds which Jones supposedly shamelessly plugged while still on The View in an effort to garner sponsorship.
Fast forward to the present, and Jones is past all the bad blood and even agreed to visit the ladies occupying her former abode to discuss her latest project that ironically captures the themes of what she endured while co-hosting the long-running staple.
Jones has developed a scripted drama for VH1 based on her 2011 book Satan’s Sisters, and the premise is blatantly conceived from real life scenarios.
The series that bares the same name as the book, exposes the behind-the-scenes drama of a popular talk show as the ladies try to balance the challenges of forging careers and friendships in an environment rife with chaos.
Actress and singer Vanessa Williams has joined the cast of Satan Sisters where she will pay the role of Maxine, who is described as a force of nature and the no-nonsense creator and host (sound familiar?) of The Lunch Hour, who uses the power she wields to get exactly what she wants. Maxine will be surrounded by four co-hosts who also happen to be her sisters.
Considering that the show is on VH1 it isn’t a shock that there will be plenty of salaciousness mixed in with temper tantrums and possibly flying cocktail glasses – as the women allow jealousy and competitiveness to tear them apart while they maintain decorum once the cameras start rolling.
It will be interesting to see how the cast of characters shape up and if Jones will employ more of her personal experience in their development.
We will find out when the series makes its debut on VH1 in 2017.
