Oscar-wnning actress Lupita Nyong’o is taking over the cover of the March issue of Lucky Magazine, and as always she looks divinely perfect in all her vibrant splendor.
After emerging as a major star on the horizon thanks to her affecting performance in 12 Years a Slave, the Mexican-born Kenyan actress has continued her climb up the ladder of success by nabbing high-profile roles in the upcoming Star Wars movie as well as the lead in Americanah, opposite another formidable talent David Oyelowo.
But aside from her acting chops, Nyong’o is also a force to reckon with when she hits the red carpet and her impeccable style and flawless skin have garnered her numerous endorsements and ad campaigns. Her most notable partnership with Lancome as their roving representative is proof of the actress’ global viability.
But Nyong’o had to wait until she was an adult to indulge in makeup due to her mother’s strict adherence to a more natural template. She opens up to Lucky about how hard it was to restrain herself, “Honestly, my mother’s outlook was hard for me to take when I was a teenager and I wanted to experiment. But in the end I appreciated it, because today I can look in the mirror with no makeup and love myself”.
The eloquent beauty also cites Nina Simone, Grace Jones, and Elizabeth Taylor as the women she looks up to when it comes to pioneers of beauty.
Nyong’o also delves into how she became comfortable with her desire to be an actress despite the chaotic climate of the profession, coupled with the fact that she is comes from a family of academics. But she stuck to her dream and refused to waver in her quest to explore her passion.
Her hard work and perseverance obviously paid off and we are so glad it did!
