The Sound of Music is one of those musicals that you can’t devalue because it’s just that good. Captain Von Trapp – who is helplessly laden with seven children after the death of his beloved wife, is rescued by the whimsical nun, Maria who reports for duty after being lovingly dismissed from The Abbey.
The super-sized compound becomes alight with music and the chemistry between two unlikely comrades finally reaches the right tempo – making every girl swoon with envy at the lucky gal who despite her wearied frocks – was able to woo her way into the arms of a hot and wealthy Captain!
This tale came to be 50 years ago and now there is confirmation that the magic could be recreated as co-stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer reunite to pay homage to the film that made them look like dreamboats.
Yes! Back in 1965, The Sound of Music sealed its legacy as one of the most revered movie-musicals of all time – so it’s only fitting that it gets some recognition for living up to the hype by remaining an endearing classic.
On March 26, both Plummer and Andrews will share the stage at a gala honoring the 50th anniversary – and the event will be chaired by Robert Osborne, who serves as the dutiful host of the phenomenal Turner Classic Movies.
The TCL Chinese Theater IMAX is the designated venue and after we pass out from the sight of The Captain and Maria after all these years – those who are lucky enough to attend the festivities, will be treated to a restored version of the film.
The rest of us can relive the fantasy once we get our hands on the Blu-ray version that will be available on March 10.
In the spirit of our “favorite things” – this will definitely make an impressionable ranking.
