TLC is back in the headlines in an unexpected way. After dominating the charts in the 90’s, and establishing the blueprint for the girl bands that tired to replicate their momentum – the girls are back! But this time – there’s a catch.
After suffering the loss of Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ Lopez who tragically perished in a car accident while vacationing in Honduras in 2002, it has been understandably for remaining members, Rozonda “Chili” Thomas and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins to recall the glory days – as was demonstrated with their search for a third member that ended in tatters.
They had an amazing run with a roster of hits that include, “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg”, “What About Your Friends”, “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs” and now they are eager to reclaim the spotlight by ending it all with a fitting bang.
But in order to achieve this milestone – they are eliciting the services of Kickstarter to help fund their final project.
3D is the title of their offering and they are betting on about $150,000 to get them to the finish line. That is how much it will cost to start the process and get it to the release of the final product. According to the assigned page, “The initial goal of $150,000 will go towards a wring session in the studio with a producer and engineer. The money that will go to booking music producers, writing sessions, mixing sessions, recording sessions, and SO much more”.
For those who are inclined to support a group that still resurrects a healthy does of nostalgia, you will have to shell out an impressive wad of cash to reap the full benefits of your loyalty and commitment.
$7,500 will earn you a photo shoot with the group – while $1,000 will guarantee a movie date with none other than Chilli. And if you are not “rolling in the dough”, you can settle for a $15 donation which will present you with a digital copy of the album.
September 2015 is the due date and so far $126,000 has been raised which is impressive considering the campaign began this past Sunday.
There is no doubt that TLC will reach and probably even surpass their goal but will the end result justify the means? It is hard to say especially since they are missing a key element but it is a worthy endeavor that will hopefully tie up loose ends adequately and historically.
