The NYPD is absolutely using the tragic deaths of the two officers who were murdered last weekend as an opportunity to stick to the man they blame for all the chaos and mayhem befalling their unit.
The shocking murders unleashed a roster of blame on Mayor Bill de Blasio as he was taken to task for encouraging the nationwide protests against police brutality which in turn has prompted a deep seeded hatred for law enforcement that has become viral.
Truth be told – the popularity of the men in blue was never at an all time high but of course the current issues pertaining to racial profiling, illegal chokeholds and senseless shootings isn’t helping to validate their assigned badges.
De Blasio for his part has tried to remain neutral and empathetic while also acknowledging the need for initiated reforms to help repair the damaged relationship between law enforcement and the community at large.
But so far that may be a tall order, since the police force isn’t quite ready yet to make nice with those who reject their questionable tactics when it comes to enforcing the law.
Despite pleading with protesters to refrain from any activity until the families of the dead officers have been sufficiently accommodated – the mayor is still on NYPD’s
sh—list. This was quite evident at the funeral of one of the slain cops – Rafael Ramos on Saturday. Sources confirmed to media outlets that NYPD officers were so incensed with de Blasio’s presence that they literally couldn’t face him. While delivering his speech, the cops in attendance dutifully turned their backs to him.
This has been the official stance of the NYPD who feel betrayed by de Blasio after his stirring speech in response to the aftermath of the Eric Garner case where he discussed police brutality and admitted that he and wife Chirlane also worry about their teenage son, Dante facing the consequences of being racially profiled.
Officers also turned away from the mayor while he addressed the tragic shooting last weekend. There was also that banner that flew over The Big Apple that was populated with the words – “De Blasio, Our Backs Have Turned to You”.
Seems like it is an all out war against the NYPD and the mayor’s office which does very little to convince protesters that the pending issues resulting in the deaths of innocent and unarmed black boys and men will ever be resolved.
In response to the offensive banner, the mayor’s office issued a statement, “This is a time to think about the families and honor our fallen officers. Dividing people won’t help our city heal”
