Songstress Whitney Houston’s sudden death on Feb. 11 left her fans stunned and devastated and it looks like Target may have wished they had consulted with a psychic before they decided to adorn their shelves with greeting cards inspired by the late singer’s publicly acknowledged misstep.
The cards which have since been removed actually made their debut while Houston was still alive and well and they apparently make references to her ill-fated relationship with R&B Bad Boy, Bobby Brown. The controversial card reads: “Next time you think of dating the bad boy, consider Whitney Houston. That’s all I’m going to say.”
Talk about bad timing! Or good timing depending on your interpretation. But what is hard to fathom is why Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown is still an issue in 2012. The former couple sealed the deal 20 years ago and had parted ways almost 5 years ago. Surely Target could have sifted through current headlines to find more worthy subjects. I can think of a couple of candidates, Sandra Bullock/Jesse James or even Denise Richards/Charlie Sheen. Those men definitely fit the description of a BAD BOY without question.
Whitney Houston’s problems did not begin and end with her ex-husband but that’s beside the point. There has to be another way to get the message across without taking advantage the sad plight of celebrities.
Whatever happened to the magical concept of Originality?
