Now that the fall TV schedule is in full swing, its becoming clear, which shows, will become mainstays and which ones will be terminated.
The two struggling shows on ABC are ironically enough on both sides of the perimeter. Grey’s Anatomy is a veteran having made its debut back in 2005, and it was readily embraced as the more modern and revamped version of another NBC hit medical drama, ER. But the years have apparently taken its toll and now Grey’s may be handed the pink slip before its ready to bow out. Both Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice are the now grown up children of creator Shonda Rhimes, and despite the mini-controversy that plagued Grey’s and resulted in the ousting of Isaiah Washington, who happened to be one of the show’s main characters, both shows have enjoyed a pretty healthy run. But the recent numbers prove that Grey’s and Private Practice are losing steam, and this could be attributed to the staleness that has settled in. The storylines seem to be redundant and the characters both new and old don’t inspire any sense of attachment from the viewers. Perhaps Grey’s Anatomy particularly needs to take its cue from classmate Desperate Housewives and leave before the going gets really bad.
Charlie’s Angels is the new kid on the block at ABC and anybody who thought this show was going to be received with open arms clearly needs a reality check. Not even the sweltering sexiness of Minka Kelly and her co-stars can save this updated version of the 70’s iconic predecessor. We will not be sad to see this one fail and ultimately disposed. This was an inevitably bad idea and it reveals the desperation of network execs as they battle the ever-raging war against the reality TV machine.
The saga continues and only time will dictate the life span for both shows. Whatever happens, we wont be sorry to say a premature goodbye to Charlie’s Angels! Sometimes its just best to let sleeping dogs lie.
