Vin Diesel Confirms ‘Fast and Furious’ Spinoffs and Prequels

The Fast franchise is not bowing out anytime soon so keep your engines revved up because its only going to get better.

After a stunning outing at the global box office in April with the arrival of Furious 7 that basically and expectedly tore the box office apart by amassing mind-blowing numbers and setting a new record for Universal – star and producer, Vin Diesel is hoping to take advantage of the healthy momentum with an ambitious expansion that will entail a roster of spinoffs and prequels.

After the tragic and untimely death of Paul Walker who was killed in a car crash almost two years ago – it was glaringly uncertain if the Fast franchise could survive the loss of one it’s most prominent family member. The fact that they were able to complete the seventh installment seemed like a mind-blowing miracle, but like any other lovingly dedicated family unit – they survived the emotional challenges by banding together for better or worse. And the result was a gorgeously affecting film that honored their fallen brethren with breathless adoration while also giving fans the opportunity to say a final goodbye to Brian O’Connor.

This closes an important chapter in the enduring saga but also leaves room for future developments to take hold in the still thriving juggernaut. And if Diesel has anything to say about it – this will happen sooner rather than later. According to the actor best known as Dom Torreto – despite the already two films that are slated to complete the trilogy, we can also anticipate more films that will serve as prequels and spinoffs to help richly define the characters that we have grown to love.

Diesel explains, “We’ve written out story lines for various characters”. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class”.

So there you have it, the Fast franchise isn’t fading into the sunset just yet. It impressively overcame the awkward stage that set in after the third installment which director Justin Lin can take credit for since he single-handedly restored the the original settings by rescuing the franchise from oblivion.

2009’s Fast and Furious brought back the original teamsters and its blockbuster reception birthed Fast Five – a climatically enticing seducer set in Rio de Janeiro – that can easily categorized as one of the best heist films of all time. And the rest is history.

Straight Outta Compton director, F. Gary Gray has been commissioned to helm Furious 8 and based on his track record – we can only imagine the dopeness that will unfold in 2017.

In the meantime – die-hard fans can rest assured that they will not stop hearing the mantra “Ride or Die” anytime soon.
