Bollywood actress and star of ABC’s Quantico, Priyanka Chopra is trending but not for reasons that you would assume. Chopra was scheduled to appear on Nightline – Tuesday night for a story called “How ‘Quantco’ Star Priyanka Chopra Dealt With Race Issues” – a dilemma that the network is apparently fostering after it’s latest blunder.
During a promo for the upcoming segment featuring Chopra, ABC mistakenly showcased another Indian actress who also happens to be a former Miss World – Yukta Mookhey. Chopra won the same pageant back in 2000 while Mookhey (seen in the pic below) took the title a year earlier in 1999.
It didn’t take long for Twitter to catch on as the word spread that Chopra had been carelessly replaced with the image of another global star who aside from sharing a similar heritage and background – looks nothing like the newly minted TV star.
What’s even more ironic is the subject of the interview, which delves into the challenges Chopra, faced growing up in America as she endured varying degrees of racial bullying. Clearly this is turning out to be a lifelong struggle for the actress as she’s pathetically subjected to a public case of mistaken identity based on her race.
Nightline issued a swift apology and offered up an accurate version to erase the one that never should have aired but by then the damage had already been done.
Thankfully Chopra brushed off the embarrassing error by tweeting “LOL” in response.
