Azealia Banks is not ready to give up the fight when it comes to the ongoing debate she initiated with rival “Igloo Australia” (Sorry Iggy but we actually prefer this moniker to yours) regarding the appropriation issues within the hip-hop community.
The heated dialogue began around the time the nation went into shock over the non-indictment of the cop responsible for the illegal chokehold that resulted in the death of Eric Garner, a 43-year-old father of six.
The rapper took to twitter and called out the recently touted “Princess of Hip-Hop” for conveniently profiting off of a culture that she clearly has no passion for since she has chosen to remain silent about the tragedy that for the most part has every one up in arms.
The Australian export responded by diminishing Azealia’s talent and marking her as another “angry black woman” who is bitter about the fact that as a white artist – she is “killing” the game.
This of course didn’t’ sit too well with Azealia who gave a surprisingly emotional interview during her visit with Hot 97 – where she verbally demolished T.I. and his wife Tiny during a passionate monologue focusing on her frustration and fear that black culture will eventually be extinct if the current trend continues.
Twitter is a platform that garners star-studded attention so it was just a matter of time before the battle initiated worthy soldiers to the cause, which explains why Q-Tip took the opportunity to school Iggy Azelea on the history of hip-hop. This wasn’t received well and basically the war wages on.
In the meantime, Azealia is now embarking on a new project. The 23-year-old is determined to find the descendants of slave owners with the sole purpose of making them atone for the crimes that were committed in their name.
Sounds quite ambitious and we would probably assume this was a joke if she hadn’t tweeted her mission for all to see – “I wonder where the descendants of the ‘DeWolf’ family are today. they should all have their houses burned and their finances seized”. “This generation of young black kids needs to make a CONCERTED effort to seek out living descendants of major slave trading families. They OWE is Money”.
Hmmm…I think we can collectively agree that slavery was and still is a major black mark in American history – but pursuing the families of the ones who were guilty so many centuries ago may not be a rewarding or salvageable effort.
But we still have to give props to Azealia for her renegade spirit – hopefully it will continue to serve her well.
