Once it was confirmed that David Letterman was ready to vacate The Late Show, the rumor mill immediately went into overdrive parading a list of possible candidates that could possibly fill the coveted spot.
Finally the suspense is over and we have a new heir apparent! Stephen Colbert, who has spent a considerable chunk of his career immersed in delivering comical genius paralleled with political fare by way of The Colbert Report, will be replacing Letterman at the end of this year.
It is an indisputable fact that this choice is the best one yet and will surely prove to be poetically prolific. As The Hollywood Reporter eloquently detailed, “Hiring Stephen Colbert, whose agile mind, insanely quick wit and impressive interviewing skills will fit perfectly in the late night show universe, was never less than the sublimely obvious thing to do”.
We can’t wait to see how Colbert utilizes the space once embodied by a legend who impeccably performed the “late night gig “ with a particular level of personalized expertise and vibrancy. Letterman released a statement stamped with his approval, and in it he referred to Colbert as “incredibly talented”.
It’s too soon to speculate on how the format of The Late Show will shift with Colbert’s arrival, but clearly he will not be transferring his signature antics since they obviously won’t translate very well. But we can assume that he will surpass all expectations and continue the winning formula that his new home has fondly delivered without skipping a beat.
