It is that time of year again! The lucky inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2015 have been announced and as always it is a delightfully eclectic mix of sophisticated tempos, temperate brassiness and simulating classics.
Check out the new batch of honorees – The late Lou Reed who already experienced the privilege back in 1996, as a member of the Velvet Underground, will be given his own posthumous shout out for his solo work. Another dearly departed talent; Stevie Ray Vaughan will be recognized along with his band, Double Trouble.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will also be part of the fun and despite her immense contribution to the genre, Jett expressed her joyous disbelief once hearing the news, “It’s surreal and very humbling”. “I’ve always been hopeful that I’d get in because I think it’s an incredible acknowledgement. I’m very proud to be with all these great musicians”.
Others who will be partaking in the humble pie – Bill Withers, who hasn’t been active in the music scene for quite some time but has managed to seal his endearing legacy – the Paul Butterfield Blues Band round up the list.
Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will be bequeathed the Award for Musical Excellence while the “5” Royals, known primarily for their R&B jives back in the 50’s will receive the Early Influence Award.
Any opportunity to celebrate the musical landscape in a cohesive way that allows for righteous nostalgia is always appreciated and welcomed!
The ceremony will take place at Cleveland’s famed Public Hall on April 18th, 2015. You can get a chance to be up close and personal by making purchasing tickets once they go on sale on Thursday.
