The tragic death of one-time WWF Champion, Joanie Laurer – known by fans as Chyna – stunned the industry and shed light on the fragile disposition of the woman who was revered for her uncanny skills in the male dominated world of professional wrestling.
Chyna, who was found unresponsive in her Redondo Beach home a week ago – waged a very public battle with her addiction to prescription pills – which ultimately led her to appear on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew back in 2008.
Despite, her best efforts, the tormented wrestler was unable to defeat her demons as manager, Anthony Anzaldo confirms that his client passed away from what can only be described as an accidental overdose.
Anzaldo explained to NBC News that the legally prescribed drugs – Valium and Ambien that were found near her bed – were not ingested in the manner that was recommended which led to the wrestler’s untimely death.
“She accidently and unintentionally misused her legally prescribed medication over the course of 2-3 weeks.”
After her death was officially confirmed on her Facebook page – a video of the 45-year-old that was supposedly posted three days before her demise, resurfaced and showed the woman who was also known as the “9th wonder of the world” – in a disturbing state of disorientation as she scoured her apartment while slurring her words and sporting a prominently bruised eye.
There is no question that the former wrestling champion was suffering in her final days and perhaps there will be some answers to the questions haunting those she left behind.
Anzaldo is in the process of working with the renowned Dr. Bennet Omalu who requested to have the late wrestler’s brain for the purpose of extended study and verification of the after effects of the brutal sport that made her star.
Anzaldo is currently trying to obtain permission from Chyna’s family.
