Steve Harvey is probably the most hated person in the universe right now.
After what seemed like a relatively calm event, the final three at the Miss Universe competition held in Las Vegas were ready for their fates to be unsealed.
Enter the host of the evening whose job it was to delegate the runners up and finally bequeath the winner of the night.
Unfortunately Harvey was unable to seamlessly perform what is deemed as the most sacred duty which is to read the card correctly and announce the lucky girl who gets to be crowned and cheered for her moment in the spotlight.
A girl did have that honor for about 5 minutes. Miss Columbia was mistakenly announced as the winner while Miss Philippines who most assumed would win was secured as the first runner up.
Once Harvey realized his mistake he apologetically rectified it but the damage was done.
To the dismay of viewers and the utter shock of Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Philippines – the crown was promptly removed from Miss Columbia, Adriadna Guttierrez gorgeously coiffed head and transferred to Wurtzbach who graciously accepted and awkwardly made her way down the stage and performed the mandatory requirements of acceptance – including the wave and smile.
As expected social media immediately became a hotspot for all things related to Steve Harvey and how badly he messed things up. Media outlets joined in full force with Gawker referring to the embarrassed comedian as a “Monster”.
Sure, Harvey may have given Miss Columbia reason to seek counseling for about a year but we would hardly call him a “monster”.
Nevertheless – it was quite a night for the Miss Universe franchise that quite frankly never receives this level attention and probably never will again unless Harvey is back to host which at this point seems highly unlikely.
