Controversial and troubled Irish singer, Sinead O’Connor has been reported missing after she failed to return from a bike ride this past Sunday.
The 49-year-old, who has publicly war with depression, reportedly was last seen heading for a bicycle ride in the Wilmette area of Chicago. She never returned.
The police were notified and are earnestly searching for the embattled star – as they take her fragile mental state into consideration.
From the moment she burst onto the scene in 1990 – O’Connor’s ethereal appearance never matched her almost militant demeanor when it came to matters of the heart.
Her global hit – Nothing Compares 2 U – was accompanied by a video that won praise for its stripped down and affectingly sullen delivery. The song was a successful collaboration between the singer and Prince – who penned it.
But her fame reached greater heights after a memorable appearance on Saturday Night Live where she dramatically ripped apart a photo of Pope John Paul II in front of a live audience and viewers. O’Connor’s actions were in response to her disdain for the Catholic Church – particularly its long standing resistance to tackling the crippling issue of child abuse within the walls of the institution.
Due to the severity of a “very serious breakdown”, the singer was forced to cancel a world tour in 2012.
And just recently she made the headlines after it was reported that Arsenio Hall was threatening to file a lawsuit against O’Connor after she accused the comedian of being Prince’s main source for steady drug supply.
The late icon died last month and an ongoing investigation revealed that the Purple Rain singer was tragically hooked on opioids.
The mother of four stood by her claims and posted a series of responses on Facebook – mocking Hall’s outright denial and pending lawsuit.
More to come…
Update: O’Connor was found safe on Monday after failing to return from a bike ride with no indication of her whereabouts for more than a day. The search for her has been officially called off but no other information has been provided.
