As per The Hollywood Reporter, director Paul Feig, who has never had a hard time using his voice as a weapon against injustice, took to Twitter recently, to shut down all the haters who’ve been particularly harsh on Ghostbusters cast member Leslie Jones of SNL fame.
It seems that after the trailer dropped, people were up in arms over the fact that Jones’ character in the upcoming comedy, is an MTA worker – which is in stark contrast to the day jobs her white costars have been assigned. Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, and Kate McKinnon all play scientists.
A lot of bitterness has been directed Jones’ way – forcing the comedian to defend herself and the role that she is playing in the highly-anticipated remake, “I’m playing a hardworking woman. The regular one that reps the people. You guy are the racists by labeling her a lowly MTA worker. Not me”.
But as expected based on the viral energy of social media, the backlash has gained momentum and it wasn’t long before Feig chimed in to defend Jones and put an end to the madness once and for all.
“You are a goddess & one of the warmest funniest forces of nature. F—the hater”. The director also tweeted, “And haters, attack me all you want but when you attack and insult my cast, you’ve crossed the line. Grow up and leave my cast alone”.
Jones, for her part, announced on Tuesday that the fiery situation, which she tried but failed to assuage, is encouraging her decision to close down her Twitter account.
Ghostbusters is scheduled to hit theaters n July 15, 2016.
