Comedy Central staple, Larry Wilmore – host of The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore just accepted an invitation he couldn’t refuse.
Wilmore will be the featured host and entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which will take place on April 30.
Wilmore will be on display and tasked with the privilege of indulging in one of the most revered gigs in pretty much the whole universe.
Maybe he can get some pointers from those of who have already boldly ventured into this elite institution. Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and most recently SNL’s Cecily Strong have all answered the call to duty and delivered with high points.
But something tells us that Wilmore will be able to hold his own without challenges ahead – based on his enviable track record.
Carol Lee, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association is also confident that the White House chose wisely, “Larry’s edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he’s certainly up to the task of skewering politicians of all ideology stripes, and we don’t expect the nation’s news media to escape unscathed, either”.
Well, that’s certainly great news because the news media definitely needs a mandatory reality check – ASAP.
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner may seem like the ultimate glitzy affair but there is also an element of goodwill attached.
The capital raised at the end of the night is heralded towards scholarships and awards for those in need who’ve exceeded expectations.
