Tracy Morgan is certainly on the right track after a year of devastating blows stemming from a tragic car accident that claimed the life of his friend and threatened to derail him indefinitely.
He is officially “The Comeback Kid” – which was fully demonstrated when he made his triumphant return on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago.
Now it has been confirmed that he may nab a life-changing role in the untitled Richard Pryor biopic being helmed by Empire co-creator Lee Daniels. He is being considered for the role of raunchy comedian Redd Foxx.
Foxx found fame playing the hilariously cantankerous troublemaker with mischievous tendencies on the hit comedy Sanford and Son, which ran from 1972 to 1977. He was also known for his less than civil comedic streak and Morgan will undoubtedly rise to the occasion since he is also known to push all the wrong buttons for the sake of a hearty laugh.
So far the cast list is shaping up nicely with Kate Hudson securing the role of Pryor’s wife, Taraji P. Henson nabbing the role opposite Eddie Murphy as they both portray the parents of the late esteemed comedian and actor. And even Oprah gets in on the action – playing Pryor’s grandmother – who played a fundamental part in his upbringing.
Daniels definitely likes to keep it all in the family. Morgan seems to be humbled at the opportunity to bring Redd Foxx back to life and expressed that in a statement, “Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!” “It will be an honor to portray an icon”.
We are confident that Morgan will bypass all expectations. We are definitely stalking this project to completion!
