U2’s frontman Bono, made a startling declaration on the band’s website wile recapping the highs and lows of 2014.
In his A to Z of 2014, he admitted that the ghastly bicycle accident he suffered in New York, was taking its toll and could have lasting effects that would affect his ability to perform in the future.
The details of the injuries confirm why the recovery is a massive undertaking; broken arm in six places, fractured eye socket, hand and shoulder blade.
The 54-year-old Irish crooner was apparently trying to avoid another cyclist at the time of the “high-energy” accident.
This is the first time he is speaking candidly about the injuries he sustained and how he is managing the aftermath. He cited to his fans that he been on painkillers “for weeks” and confessed his role in the unfortunate incident, “I can’t blame anyone but myself”.
Bono who now sports a titanium elbow wrote that he “blanked out on impact and have no memory of how I ended up in New York Presbyterian with my humerus bone sticking through my leather jacket. Very punk rock as injuries go”.
He goes on to explain the painful road to recovery and is realistic about how it will affect the functioning of the much beloved band. “The consequences of this freak accident are significant enough that I will have to concentrate hard to be ready for the U2 tour in fitness terms”. “As a result I have cancelled every public appearance and decided this missive is all the communication I can manage for the first half of 2015. Beyond muttering and singing to myself of course”.
Things may sound bleak, but it looks like the Dubliner is ready to do everything and anything to get back into form and we have no doubt he will!
