What a difference a year makes! It wasn’t too long ago when the powers that be were ready to write off OWN, the network Oprah Winfrey had invested in and banked on as her rite of passage once she bid adieu to her legendary daytime talk show.
The ratings were less than favorable and the blame was leveled on the uneven programming and absence of the grand dame.
Well, it looks like those days are long gone and now OWN is on track to conquer the airwaves and we can attribute the miraculous comeback to Winfrey’s particular brand of dramatics and effortless access to the movers and shakers who burst the societal bubble.
Her interview with disgraced sportsman Lance Armstrong will no doubt reap astronomical benefits for her once feeble channel. Top that with her much anticipated sit down with Cissy Houston, mother of the late singer Whitney Houston that will air on February 11, the anniversary of her death.
If there is anything to take from this it’s that nobody should underestimate the power and might of one of the most formidable figures in entertainment to date.
She has risen again and God help those who publicly doubted her ability to transcend all the doubt and laser criticisms. Hopefully you wont have to eat your words at her behest.
