The BET Awards 2012 took flight Sunday night, and it was a delectable mix of high voltage energy paralleled with a good amount of emotional spasms.
Hosted by veteran actor Samuel L. Jackson, and supported by extreme star power and star couples a.k.a. Jay-Z and Beyonce and Kanye West and his newest butterfly Kim Kardashian, there was enough of a feast to satisfy any hungry viewer.
The toughest part of the festivities was obviously the touching tribute to the late Whitney Houston. Mariah Carey tearfully recalled her friend, her co-stars from the film ‘Waiting to Exhale” ; Angela Basset, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine took the stage and praised their lost comrade, and Cissy Houston gave a touching rendition of “ Bridge over Troubled Water” dedicated to the memory of her beloved daughter. Another fallen brethren who got his dues was Trayvon Martin, the teen who was shot to death on his way home by a neighborhood watchman.
There were some lighter moments as well, especially when Jay-Z gave his partner in crime a “Swift” reality check by cutting him off during his acceptance speech for the award they both garnered (Video of the Year for “Otis” courtesy of their joint effort, Watch the Throne). West had stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s moment in the sun during the MTV VMA’s and protested Swift’s win, insisting Beyonce had been robbed.
It was also nice to see old faces form yesteryears; Chante Moore did her thing with her performance of “Bad Girls” and D’Angelo brought the Sexy Back with his seductive performance of his memorable track, “How Does It Feel”.

All in all, it was definitely a well balance production complete with all the workings of a dynamic ride into the land of FUNK & ROLL.
