The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas was the venue for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards hosted by Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen.
The telecast was pretty standard as far as music award shows go, with the predictable sprinkles of energetic live performances, lip-synching stunts, courtesy of Chris Brown and the touching tributes to the dearly departed. Bobbi Kristina’s moment on stage, honoring her mother, the late Whitney Houston was quite the tearjerker.
British crooner Adele ruled the night with multiple wins in major categories including Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist. Other noteworthy winners of the night were:
Lil Wayne – Top Male Artist,
Whiz Khalifa –Top New Artist
LMFAO –Top Duo/Group
Chris Brown – Top R&B Artist
Lady Antebellum – Top Country Artist
Rihanna – Top Streaming Artist
Justin Bieber – Top Social Artist
Lady Gaga – Top Dance Artist
Coldplay- Top Alternative Artist
As far as whether or not the red carpet was pulsating with style and glamour, there were a few standouts but for the most part there weren’t enough looks to help propel the rock n’ roll chic theme commonly associated with this particular genre.
