The New York African Film Festival, the lovechild of Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) and African Film Festival, Inc (AFF) is back to celebrate another year of the best the Diaspora has to offer in filmmaking.
The 19th New York African Film Festival features a range of inspirational masterpieces that are a healthy and balanced mix of drama, documentary and comedy.
Some of the major highlights include Mama Africa, a moving retrospective about the delightfully monochromatic life of famed South African musician, Miriam Makeba, who passed away suddenly after collapsing on stage during a concert in Italy almost four years ago.
Another must see feature is Relentless, a multi-cultural vehicle directed by Andy Amadi Okoroafor. The Nigerian director expertly welds a searing tale of tragedy, desperation and unyielding faith against the backdrop of some of Africa’s most exciting and titillating cities.
The festival runs from April 11th to the 17th with all screenings taking place at The Walter Reade Theater, 165 West 65th Street.
