Sundance 2012 is currently underway, it runs from Jan 19th to the 29th, and the menu for this year looks pretty healthy and appetizing with the capacity to satisfy a wide range of palettes.
Arbitage: This complex thriller stars two of Hollywood’s most enduring actors, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon and is set against the imposing world of finance and corruption. Brit Marling and Nate Parker also help to boost the magical essence of both cast and film. Directed by Nicholas Jarecki, this should prove to be a gratifying and suspenseful ride.
Lay The Favorite: This Stephen Frears vehicle has some pretty heavy hitters; Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and indie darling Rebecca Hall are the major players in a story that revolves around the seductive world of gambling.
The Words: This visual work of art needed two directors (Brian Klugman and Lee Sternhall) to masterfully project for an audience eager to feast their eyes on hotties Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana. The story centers on an ambitious author who hijacks the work of a more promising nemesis. Wordplay never looked so good!
Red Hook Summer: Acclaimed director Spike Lee is back! And once again he delivers another gem that can be added to his collection of classics that will no doubt continue to populate with time. Red Hook Summer is a whimsical tale that follows a young lad who leaves his conveniently comfortable existence in Atlanta to spend the summer with a grandfather he has never met in the projects mecca known as Red Hook in Brooklyn. It’s a freshly story refined that regurgitates themes seen in other coming of age stories, and Lee as usual manages to douse this film with interesting and colorful characters.
These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the impressive parade of films being feted this year at one of the most prestigious festivals in the industry. For more in-depth coverage of Sundance 2012, visit The Hollywood Reporter.
