Another season of Project Runway has come to an end and as usual a winner emerges. Nothing new right? Wrong.
Ashley Nell Tipton surpassed her teammates by running away with the coveted prize after consistently delivering immaculately majestic offerings that were undeniably superior to the ones around her.
But unfortunately, she is being given a dose of reality via the outspoken trolls that dominate social media – waiting for that prefect prey to feast on.
Tipton was immediately subjected to an avalanche of hate based on the fact that her collection is specifically designed for plus-sized customers, which is probably why she won in the first place.
Yes, believe it or not – the general sentiment is that Tipton won because the show felt the need to showcase a designer who doesn’t fit the norm and by doing so sacrificed the hard work and talent of the more worthy thinner contestants.
Interesting theory but highly unlikely and rightly rebuked by fans of the show that watch it for the pure pleasure of taking in the awesomeness on display.
Tipton more than proved her worthiness throughout the season and the judges responded accordingly.
Tipton spoke to The Wrap about her experience on the show and the recent backlash she’s been enduring since her win which she expectedly finds disheartening.
“People think the only reason I won is because I had a plus-sized collection”. “But we also have to think, at the end of the day, my collection was cohesive. My collection was wearable. My collection can also go for straight-sized women”.
Well said! Unfortunately when you’re dealing with shallow minds it’s hard to get certain truths delivered in a way that make sense but to the ones that get it – Tipton is here to stay and we couldn’t be happier.
