There are very few things that have the capacity to leave us all speechless. When that moment arrives, it is undeniably striking and apparent – leaving us writhing with anticipation.
A bit dramatic, yes, but how else can you illustrate the recent confirmation that Jon Stewart, who for 16 years has meant everything to everybody is vacating is coveted spot in a later this year.
Stewart, 52, who is known as a trained caricature based on his uncanny ability to deliver the news in a systemized bubble that was always peppered with acute realism, stunned his studio audience during Tuesday night’s show and it didn’t take long for social media to erupt in manic dismay as the gravity of his imminent departure set in.
Ever the internal optimist or perhaps he knows what is at stake but prefers the route of positive thinking, the undisputed comedian who never shied away from his responsibilities, seemed humble enough to accept his position as the nation’s coveted undertaker.
Under his tutelage, The Daily Show was a national magazine with calculated appeal due to its bitingly structured format that makes allowances for temperate demands and a level of atonement that exposes the crippling excerpts of systematic exorcisms. Hopefully his vacated seat won’t change the blueprint but only enhance the winning formula.
The hunt for a new host is long overdue and might end up with the perfect fit, but for those of us with a worthy investment – we must remain strong for tomorrow and whatever that brings.
