This was an awesome day for How I Met Your Mother alumn, Neil Patrick Harris, not only did he score his first ever Tony Award nomination, but his staring vehicle, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, nabbed the most nods.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love, the titillating musical also wowed critics and managed to amass an impressive 10 Tony nominations. As expected Beautiful, the musical based on the life and career of Carole King received well-deserved recognition with seven nominations. Other notables include, the musical revue After Midnight, John Tiffany’s revived gem, the The Glass Menagerie and the always impeccable Mark Rylance delegated version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.
The Tony Awards are always a much-needed reminder of the beauty and wonder of immaculately staged productions. Some of the most revered actors of our time developed their skills spewing out dialogue in the confines of the theater.
As much as we love the blockbusters and stylized TV shows, nothing beats the discipline that envelopes actors who are committed to the magic of real time delivery.
The 2014 Tony Awards will be held on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, and actor Hugh Jackman has been commissioned to host for a fourth time.
