Trendy Report: Shakespeare in the Park Journeys to Harlem This Summer
Harlem is about to experience a medieval makeover this summer because The Classical Theatre of Harlem will be reviving one of the great classics – A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The highly anticipated production will be a roaring success under the tutelage of Producing Artistic Director, Ty Jones, and the capable direction of Artistic Associate Justin Emeka.
Harlem’s Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park will play host to a bevy of free performances starting July 13 and ending July 30, running on Tuesdays through Sunday, at 7:30 pm.
The main characters will be embodied by Michael Early (Oberon) and Zainab Jah (Titiana ). Lakai Worell will choreograph, Anka Lupes is set designer and Rachel Dozier will dream up exquisite costumes for the cast.
It sounds like a match made in heaven! Uptown collides with the melodious verses of William Shakespeare, against the backdrop of a thriving urban Mecca dripping with the spirit of cultural escapades and consistent rejuvenation. The thousand-seat amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park just underwent an extensively pricey renovation, proving that timing is everything.
If you are feeling particularly indulgent this summer, take in this ambitious production before it runs out.
