The steamy Saturday afternoon may not have inspired the need to set up your parlor with arrangements of tea bags and macaroons. But it was the perfect backdrop for Ghanaian designer Mimi Plange, who used the theme to procreate and produce her latest offspring.
“Tea with Mother” a bashfully staged occasion to highlight her Spring/Summer 2013 collection, used the operatic strings that gather all the elements necessary for a delightfully symbiotic dwelling. The vision was apparent at first glance, thanks to the temperately subtle hues co-existing with rustic trimmings that provided the perfect interplay of ultra femininity doused with dainty maturity.
Plange referenced the fact that this time around she was particularly struck by the intricate grooves of porcelain art, but her most telling disposition was her homage to the inevitable transition from girl to womanhood and how that journey translates into All Things Bright And Beautiful. This angelic hymn should have been playing in the background because Plange’s pieces definitely evoked the timeless verses.
Ever true to her signature platform, there was a celebration of her much-lauded trapunto embroidery etched into her familiar delicacies that included silk chiffon and sheaths of supreme organza.
The detailing took a vital turn with an introduction to the seductive printed leather that enhanced the floral pitch to a whole new dimension. There were healthy doses of stunning beadwork, a parade of artful pleated confections and psychedelic infused supports that could magically transform any blouse into a heightened conversation piece.
There were also reminders of why Plange is every woman’s best friend. She never misses an opportunity to revel in the female form by sticking to her special brand of effortless elegance. And that’s why she always maximizes the relevance of exaggerated sleeves, billowy silhouettes and spectacularly constructed waistbands.
It was definitely a pleasant way to spend the afternoon, surrounded by the very things that make being a girl worth the complex but simply graceful journey.
