Cover Trends: Madonna Graces The Cover Of Harper’s Bazaar

Madonna has always played her cards right when it comes to perfecting the role of innovator. The original “Material Girl” has pretty much indulged in every available outlet possible and whether or not she has always succeeded, isn’t nearly as important as the fact that she is fearless in her pursuits.

Her latest venture, W.E. is a film about American socialite Wallis Simpson, who managed to change the course of the British monarchy by inspiring King Edward VIII to abdicate the throne so he could spend his lifetime in pursuit of her love. The film stars Abbie Cornish who plays Wally, a woman who appears to have it all except for the fact that she is in an abusive marriage and then there is Wallis played by Andrea Riseborough, whose life story is of historical significance. Both stories are neatly interwoven to create a tale of love, lust, and betrayal. The characters also end up meshing when Wallis becomes something of a guardian angel to Wally.

W.E. seems to be Madonna’s most ambitious project to date and even though it’s not receiving rave reviews, the subject matter and the impressive array of couture costumes courtesy of costume designer Ariane Phillips who also lent her talents to another biopic Walk the Line, should garner it enough attention to keep it relevant.

Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth is the lucky scribe who got to chill with the Queen of Pop, picking her brain about topics that were right up her alley considering her unapologetic nature and her history of relentlessly pushing the envelope.

And of course when it comes to Madonna, too much is never enough and the norm just won’t do, and Harper’s Bazaar gets that concept, that’s why they dedicated two covers to the bona fide director.

It’s definitely accurate to assume that Madonna is still on top of the world and intends to stay there for as long as she dares to.
