Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o may have been cheated out of screen time in The Force Awakens, but it looks like she will be making up for it sooner rather than later.
There is a strong possibility that Nyong’o will star in the sci-fi thriller Intelligent Life, a new entry from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
And if that’s not impressive enough, the script was co-written by Colin Trevorrow – the director of last summer’s global juggernaut, Jurassic World, he is also set to produce the film along with Frank Marshall.
If the Mexican-born Kenyan actress officially signs on – she may have the pleasure of working with Selma’s Ava DuVernay, who is being seriously courted to direct the project.
According to sources, DuVernay is also in contention to helm Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, based on the classic children’s tale by Madelein L’Engle. Due to the timeline of both projects – there is nothing preventing the Golden Globe nominee from tackling each of them accordingly.
The premise of Intelligent Life focuses on a man who is employed at the U.N. and works in a facility that is designed to facilitate relations in the evident of an alien invasion. The worker ends up getting romantically entangled with a woman who is later revealed to be an alien.
Nyong’o will play the role of the woman whose existence disrupts the flow of both worlds.
Filming is scheduled to begin as early as this summer.
Nyong’o who won an Academy Award for her affecting performance in 12 Years a Slave is also lending her voice to Disney’s The Jungle Book, which opens April 15. She is also starring with David Oyelowo in another Disney offering – The Queen of Katwe – about a young girl from Uganda who becomes a world-renowned chess player.
