It’s been 20 years since we got a full view of what it would mean to have aliens park their cargo over our existence without our permission.
When Independence Day hit theaters back in 1996, it became an instant blockbuster due to its perfect timing which happened to be right on the cusp of the millennium. It was the modern day version of Alien.
It was also a stunning visual fantasy with an all-star cast that featured Will Smith, Vivica A. Fox, Bill Pullham, Harry Connick Jr. and Jeff Goldblum, and Judd Hirsch.
Now two decades later – the chaos is back with Independence Day: Resurgence – and this time it looks like things are getting even more intense which Goldblum’s character asserts in the trailer as the backdrop of events confirms that his worst fears have come true. He narrates, “I’ve spent 20 years trying to get us ready for this”. “We used their technology to strengthen our planet. But it won’t be enough”.
Sounds pretty scary and we’re sure the film won’t disappoint under the direction of Roland Emmerich who is back to helm the second chapter of the resurrected franchise.
Will Smith will not be back to reprise his role but Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch and BIll Pullham who played President Thomas J. Whitmore will return to the battlefield. They will be joined by a host of new recruits -, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Independence Day: Resurgence will make its debut on June 24, 2016.
