The CFDA Fashion Awards captured the perfect Manhattan evening, complete with models, actresses and industry gems, decked out to impress and ready to honor a handful of individuals, who have proven their stylized mileage.
Rihanna and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour. What a combo!
Rihanna, has racked up an impressive roster of award, and her latest honor is appropriately assigned. Jay-Z’s former protégée has proven her ability to turn heads since she arrived on the scene, and at just 26, she is most likely the youngest recipient of the Fashion Icon award but that’s what happens when you are a risk taker and astutely ahead of your time. Whether it’s conquering the music charts or dominating the red carpet with her adventurous spirit, Rihanna effortlessly delivers without missteps and that’s why she will continue to shine bright like ‘Diamonds” for years to come.
Another noteworthy inclusion is one time model and resident fashion activist, Bethann Hardison, who was bequeathed the Founder’s Award. Hardison’s influence has been the constant stream that dutifully funneled the careers of African-American models that were privileged to arrive after her. Her quest for a more stabilized equilibrium in regards to diversity has been a fiery mission that has garnered the right attention but still remains an unsolved mystery. Nevertheless, she graciously received her award, and contained the audience with her inspirational disposition.
Designer Tom Ford also had his chance in the spotlight, thanks to his Lifetime Achievement honor, and Raf Simons, was recognized for his two year stint at Dior when he accepted his International Award from muse, Marion Cotillard.
It was another opportunity for the heavy hitters to mesh and celebrate the seductive nature of being able to look amazing due to the Rolodex of designers that are clamoring to make your dreams come to life.
The parade of stars provided more than enough eye candy, but only a select few gave us reason to pause.
