The buzz around the immaculately scripted parade of fashion’s brightest starts that have descended on Florence for the 2012 Pitti Immagine W Trade Show, is resoundingly encouraging and poetically re-assuring when it comes to what the future holds for African designers looks like.
The Pitt W. initiative was fostered out of the hope that when you merge talents from different countries it breeds a level of creativity that can only inspire and revitalize a community that is already a force to be reckoned with.
Six designers were skillfully selected by lawyer and Style House Files founder, Omoyemi Akerele. His firm specializes in scoping out emerging talent in the African fashion world and giving them exposure on a global scale. This is all in an effort to close the gap of conflict and encourage a healthy sense of unity and appreciation without the threat of racial bias.
Judging by the impressive lineup, we can only imagine how gratifying it was to stand back and subitize the racks of excellence.
A delectable piece from Lanre Da Silva’s collection
Vogue Italia’s Franca Sozzani took a snapshot of all the splendor and adoration in Florence, including a visual introduction of the lucky six who got the winning ticket to the destination of their dreams.
Jewel by Lisa (Lisa Folawiyo), Anita Quansah, Bridget Awosika, Lanre Da Silva, Omer Asim, and Zainab Enterprises (Zainab Ashadu) made their continent proud and confirmed that the Diaspora is overflowing with cultural vibrancy at the brink of a stunning multi-dimensional revolution.
