The world waited with bated breath as the Oscar nominations were dutifully announced and as usual it was a mixed bag of contentment and disappointment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/2013\/01\/11\/trendy-report-the-oscar-race-is-officially-on\/oscar-nominations\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5950\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5950\" title=\"Oscar Nominations\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Oscar-Nominations-015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Oscar-Nominations-015.jpg 620w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Oscar-Nominations-015-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Most insiders were right on the money with some of their predictions, <strong>Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo and Les Miserables<\/strong> were included in the Best Picture Category. The one surprise of the bunch would be <strong>Silver Linings Playbook<\/strong>, which obviously won the admiration of the voters since it managed to garner recognition in the acting categories thanks to nominations scored by J<strong>ennifer Lawrence<\/strong> for Best Actress, <strong>Bradley Cooper<\/strong> for Best Actor and <strong>Robert De Niro<\/strong> for Best Supporting Actor.\u00a0There was also a fairytale element to the announcements as nine-year-old <strong>Quvenzhane Wallace<\/strong> scored a nomination for her memorable performance in the summer hit, <strong>Beasts of the Southern Wild.<\/strong> She is essentially the youngest nominee ever to be nominated for Best Actress.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Django Unchained<\/strong> despite its controversial veil managed to shatter the box office and the lucky streak carried over to the Oscars as it received nominations for <strong>Christoph Waltz<\/strong> for Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture among others. Surprisingly, the film\u2019s director <strong>Quentin Tarantino<\/strong> was left out of the Best Director category.<\/p>\n<p>Another major upset was director <strong>Kathryn Bigelow<\/strong>, who despite being responsible for the brilliant execution of Best Picture nominee <strong>Dark Zero Thirty<\/strong>, was shut out of the Best Director race.
