{"id":14879,"date":"2016-03-09T00:50:49","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T00:50:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/?p=14879"},"modified":"2016-03-09T00:53:03","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T00:53:03","slug":"maria-sharapovas-failed-drug-test-announcement-forces-sponsors-to-abandon-ship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/09\/maria-sharapovas-failed-drug-test-announcement-forces-sponsors-to-abandon-ship\/","title":{"rendered":"Maria Sharapova\u2019s Failed Drug Test Announcement Forces Sponsors to Abandon Ship"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p>Tennis star, Maria Sharapova is sadly joining the long list of athletes who have seen their careers quickly evaporate after being associated with the ultimate sin of doping.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/maria_3590727b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14880\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/maria_3590727b.jpg\" alt=\"Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova speaks at a press conference in downtown Los Angeles, California, March 7, 2016. \/ AFP \/ Robyn BeckROBYN BECK\/AFP\/Getty Images\" width=\"620\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/maria_3590727b.jpg 620w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/maria_3590727b-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the case of Sharapova who has sustained the title of \u201chighest paid female athlete\u201d for 11 years in a row, the circumstances aren\u2019t as dire, considering she wasn\u2019t aware of the risk she was taking at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old blonde &#8211; who has been revered for her looks as well as her sensational prowess on the courts &#8211; publicly admitted that she failed a drug test back in January.<\/p>\n<p>The big reveal came as a shock to the tennis player\u2019s sponsors who are rapidly distancing themselves from the woman they trusted with their globally viable brand.<\/p>\n<p>Luxury brands like Nike, TAG Heuer and Porsche, have all decided to drop Sharapova after news made the headlines.<\/p>\n<p>TAG Heuer was already banking on renewing the contract with their star athlete following its expiration in December 2015 \u2013 but those plans have come to a screeching halt until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the fact that Sharapova didn&#8217;t intentionally take the banned substance, the International Tennis Federation may decide not to keep her suspended for the mandatory four years.
