{"id":14753,"date":"2016-02-16T19:35:14","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T19:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/?p=14753"},"modified":"2016-02-16T19:35:14","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T19:35:14","slug":"vanity-princes-one-time-ingenue-dies-at-57","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/16\/vanity-princes-one-time-ingenue-dies-at-57\/","title":{"rendered":"Vanity, Prince\u2019s One Time Ing\u00e9nue, Dies at 57"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- google_ad_section_start --><p>Vanity, who was born Denise Katrina Matthews \u2013 died on Monday after years of battling \u00a0kidney failure due to her years of drug abuse which eventually took its toll.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vanity1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14754\" src=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vanity1.jpg\" alt=\"vanity\" width=\"650\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vanity1.jpg 650w, http:\/\/mytrendybuzz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/vanity1-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The lead singer of Vanity 6 and former prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of Prince also contracted an abdominal infection, which led her to set up a GoFundMe page last year where she divulged the seriousness of her condition.<\/p>\n<p>Matthews was born in Canada and spent a good portion of the eighties enjoying the benefits of her exotic good looks, which inevitably caught the attention of Prince who was also cultivating a cult status during that memorable period of excess and exaltation.<\/p>\n<p>She also dabbled into acting, by starring in high thrill flicks like <em>The Last Dragon<\/em> and Action Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>But her struggle with drug abuse forced Matthews to seek drastic measures to save her life. After almost dying of a drug overdose in 1994 \u2013 the singer decided to become a born-again Christian. This shift towards the light was sealed in 1997 when she received a kidney transplant \u2013 Matthews saw it as a second chance and became completely immersed in evangelism.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 \u2013 she released her autobiography, <em>Blame It on Vanity<\/em>. Matthews married Anthony Smith of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1995 but the marriage only lasted a year.
